The Countdown

The Radio Caroline Countdown of Album Sounds

Saturday 12pm ~ 3pm with Al Duprés

Produced by Graham Coull

Countdown 12th April to 26th April

On this week’s brand new Countdown we have 22 Climbers, 9 Fallers, 2 non-movers & 7 New Entries, dropping out are Caravan, Sting, Brendan Benson, Canterbury, Paul Rodgers, Eric Bibb & The Janeys.
Of the newbies, RPWL are a German Prog outfit formed in 1997 and this is their 7th Studio album. Beck has also been around since the 90′s and he’s  come up with another set of finely-crafted songs. Asgeir is our first Icelandic artist in the Countdown & his original version in Icelandic of this album was hugely popular there. John Grant (in the Countdown in 2013) is now resident in Iceland & helped translate into English and now Asgeir has been playing some dates in the UK, with a few more to come in Europe. The album sounds splendid!

Maybe it’s because 2014 is the 100th anniversary of the start of the Great War, but we have had a few albums in the Countdown on the subject of Wars and battles. Joining Fish and Freedom To Glide are the Kaiser Chiefs with their new effort ‘Education, Education, Education & War’ and it’s a bit of a departure from their previous albums.

Next week, the regular Countdown show is taking a week off, as Caroline are presenting our Listeners’ 50th Anniversary Countdown of 500 albums all over the Easter weekend. The regular Countdown will be back on the 26th with another brand new chart.

Here’s the Countdown as presented by Al on Saturday 12th April.
